In the 17 years of its work so far, the Eine-Welt-Stiftung Rhein-Berg has been able to specifically support 33 projects in developing countries.
Most projects came about – as a form of good cooperation – from the associations and groups affiliated with the local „Stadtverband Eine Welt Bergisch Gladbach“. Primary schools and vocational training centres should be particularly mentioned in this context. The foundation places particular emphasis on supporting projects for children and young people. We were very pleased that in 2022 we were able to enable 20 orphaned children in Zimbabwe to complete their schooling.
The foundation has had many years of positive experience with granting microcredits to „micro-entrepreneurs“. This has allowed numerous projects to be supported, such as poultry farming, livestock farming, crop cultivation, sewing workshops, snack bars, the production of candied fruit, and the sale of meals for field workers.
A total of over €58,000 was paid out for the supported projects.
As a consequence of the armed conflicts in Afghanistan and Syria, a large wave of refugees famously moved towards Europe, and Germany in particular, in 2015. The Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis and its municipalities took on the basic provision for the people assigned there. In parallel, numerous associations and groups undertook various supplementary activities for refugees that could not be provided by public bodies. These activities primarily benefited women and children.
The Bergisch Gladbach One World Association received numerous requests for financial support for these activities. This led to the One World Association, the Bethe Foundation and the One World Foundation Rhein-Berg jointly setting up a special fund to support these refugee projects. The One World Foundation took over the administration of the fund; disbursements were made after the projects had been reviewed and approved by the three organisations mentioned. In total, 18 projects were supported with a total of almost 15,000 euros. Particularly noteworthy here are various projects for children, such as swimming courses, painting courses, museum visits and day trips in the Bergisches Land region. Offers in meeting places were also very well received, where refugee women met with local women in a relaxed atmosphere and were able to get advice.The Executive Board and the Board of Trustees of the One World Foundation Rhein-Berg would like to take this opportunity to thank the many loyal donors who have regularly given their donations to the foundation in full confidence. Without them, it would be impossible to achieve the foundation's goals! We would also like to thank the many artists and volunteers who have supported the foundation so strongly with their charity events.
In the seventeen years since the foundation was established, 21 charity events of various formats have been organised, including musical and theatrical performances, information events, and card game tournaments. Donations were also received from other charity events. In many cases, the artists waived their fees and royalties. At this point, we would like to once again sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the organisation of these charity events for their commitment. This thanks is especially directed towards the artists who enthralled our audience at the events with their skills.
The Bethe Foundation – https://bethe-stiftung.org – has repeatedly doubled the income from various events – this coupled with the goal of supporting selected projects even better. The Eine-Welt-Stiftung Rhein-Berg would like to take this opportunity to thank the Bethe Foundation very much for these project-related grants and for the trust placed in them.
The COVID-19 pandemic, high inflation, significant fluctuations in investments, and not least the considerable political uncertainty caused by Russia's war against Ukraine, present enormous challenges for charitable foundations such as the Eine-Welt-Stiftung Rhein-Berg. The prevailing general uncertainty is leading to significant hesitancy among the public, both in participating in benefit events and in their willingness to donate. Furthermore, particularly among younger generations, the willingness to volunteer for development cooperation projects is limited. In contrast, the need for active support for people in need in poorer countries is greater than ever, precisely due to the circumstances described. These key factors compel the foundation to make a well-founded, and not always easy, selection of projects to be supported.
Within this framework, we would like to particularly highlight the long-standing and good cooperation with the Stadtverband Eine Welt Bergisch Gladbach – https://www.stadtverband-eine-welt-gl.de – from whose member groups we regularly receive funding applications and are invited to actively participate in their activities.
