Haiti, Les Cayes - Reconstruction of a day care centre

Haiti lies in the Caribbean immediately next to Cuba on the island of Hispaniola and borders the Dominican Republic. It is the poorest country in Latin America, characterised by gang violence, political chaos, and regular natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes. The Eine-Welt-Stiftung Rhein-Berg (One World Foundation Rhein-Berg) is supporting the reconstruction of a nursery in the port city of Les Cayes, which was destroyed down to its foundations by an earthquake on 14 August 2021. The new building is designed for around 100 children whose parents work in the surrounding area during the day. Many families have virtually no money; without this facility, their children would live on the streets. The nursery is part of a small school that was also heavily damaged by the earthquake and is to be rebuilt.
