Kenya, Naivasha - Rainwater tank for Gituru Secondary School

Kenya is almost 7 times larger than Germany and represents the third largest economy south of the Sahara after Nigeria and South Africa. Nevertheless, there is a lot of poverty. Since 2018, the Peter-August-Böckstiegel-Gesamtschule (P.A.B.) in Werther, Gütersloh district, has had a partnership with the Gituru Secondary School near Naivasha. The school was founded in 1993 by a parents' initiative and provides children from poor families with a secondary education. For example, a reforestation programme was launched with the support of teachers and pupils. The P.A.B. comprehensive school had already sponsored this project with several thousand euros. However, it lacked a suitable rainwater tank to water the trees during the dry season. The One World Foundation Rhein-Berg financed this 28,000 litre tank. In addition to reforestation, seedlings are produced and sold at Gituru Secondary School; the proceeds benefit the school and pupils. The project was recommended by the Himmel un Ääd e. V. association of the One World Foundation Rhein-Berg.
