Guatemala/Central America - Indigenous women learn how to grow crops in the highlands

The One World Foundation Rhein-Berg grants microcredits to women from the highlands of Guatemala (2,000 to 3,500 metres above sea level), a mountainous region where the highly disadvantaged indigenous Maya population still lives almost exclusively amongst themselves. They use the money to buy gardening tools and plant seeds for cardamom and orchids, for example. At the same time, the university in the nearby city of Cobán offers courses in agriculture and business management. The aim of this support is to enable the women to manage their agricultural plots more efficiently, thus achieving a better livelihood. The experiences so far have been positive. […]
Haiti, Les Cayes - Reconstruction of a day care centre

Haiti lies in the Caribbean, directly next to Cuba on the island of Hispaniola, bordering the Dominican Republic. It is the poorest country in Latin America, characterised by gang violence, political chaos and regular natural disasters such as hurricanes and earthquakes. The Eine-Welt-Stiftung Rhein-Berg is supporting the reconstruction of a nursery in the port city of Les Cayes, which was destroyed to its foundations by an earthquake on 14 August 2021. The new building is designed for around 100 children, […]
Kenya, Naivasha - Rainwater tank for Gituru Secondary School

Kenya is almost 7 times larger than Germany and represents the third-largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa, after Nigeria and South Africa. Despite this, there is a lot of poverty. Since 2018, there has been a partnership between the Peter August Böckstiegel Comprehensive School (P.A.B.) in Werther, Gütersloh district, and the Gituru Secondary School near Naivasha. The school was founded in 1993 by an initiative of parents [...]
Guatemala/Central America – Indigenous women run the La Libertad poultry farm

Since the founding of the One World Foundation Rhein-Berg (2006), we have been supporting Guatemalan women – mostly direct descendants of the Maya – with micro and small loans. The present project was founded several years ago by five women in a small village in the department of Sacatepéquez: they breed and sell poultry such as chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, and Pekinese, with each woman taking on different tasks from poultry farming to organisation. The contact person for the group is Doña Rosa Abigail, second from the left in the picture. In addition to poultry, Abigail and her companions also produce and sell handmade clothing, as they have been doing since [...]
V.R. Congo, Butembo – AHAB project for the visually impaired

Butembo, Democratic Republic of Congo. 350,000 people live in the city, situated at an altitude of around 1,400 metres in close proximity to Virunga National Park. Extensive rainforests dominate the landscape, alongside volcanoes, savannas, and the last remaining approximately 700 mountain gorillas that inhabit the park in scattered populations. The One World Foundation Rhein-Berg supports the „Association des Handicapés et les Aveugles de Butembo“ (AHAB) here, a project that provides disabled and blind people with equal [...]

Two new members for the board of trustees
Frank Stein's era as mayor of Bergisch Gladbach ended on 31 October 2025 – and he already has a new task! The board of trustees of the One-World-Foundation Rhein-Berg unanimously elected him as a new member of the foundation's supervisory board. Stein (born 1963) grew up in Engelskirchen-Loope in the Oberberg region in a Catholic-influenced working-class household, studied law in Cologne and joined [...]
30 funded One World projects in 19 years
In the 19 years since its inception, the foundation has been able to fund a total of 30 projects in developing countries, some of them multiple times. Most of the projects came – as a form of good cooperation – from the associations and groups affiliated with the local „Stadtverband Eine Welt Bergisch Gladbach“. Within this framework, primary schools and vocational training centres […]
„Successful benefit concert in the tent church“
Many people turned out to hear the well-known pianist, composer, and music educator Carmen Daniela on 14 November 2023 in the Zeltkirche Kippekausen, despite the dreary autumn weather. Among those present were Mayor Frank Stein and honorary citizens Roswitha and Erich Bethe. Carmen Daniela enchanted the audience in this third joint benefit event of the local „One World Scene“ in the acoustically and [...]
